The Mediterrenean Living Lab of AgroServ is divided into three labs.
In Italy, the MED-A Living Lab is managed by CIHEAM.
CIHEAM Bari installations provide multi-scale approaches and on demand experimental designs with high level of integration and customization.
- An open-field platform allows access to the fields located at the CIHEAM campus (in Valenzano, 5 ha) of vegetable crops, olive and citrus orchards, table and wine grape vineyards, composting and biochar units; to farm: an organic-precision- table grape system (Castellaneta Marina, 8 ha) and an integrated- precision- olive system (Maruggio, 5 ha); to land scale: Xylella fastidiosa outbreak (Lecce) and large-scale water management (Capitanata).
- The Controlled environmental system platform (CES) offers access to insectarium, center for testing of PPPs, screen houses, storage rooms and plant pathogen’s collections. Analytical platforms (AnalitySys) for Plant pathology, Agricultural and Environmental Chemistry, Soil hydrology and environmental monitoring, Plant ecophysiology.
- SDG-DSS (Smart, Digital, Green) employs tools, techniques, technologies, data sensors, connected devices, remote control tools, drones etc. that are integrated into multi- experiment platforms. It includes proximal and remote installations. Geophysical (EMI sensors, time and frequency sensors, and capacitive sensors) and precision geospatial (GPS, GIS, GNSS) and in loco techniques (remote sensing, in loco sensing, landscape analysis). In-situ and on-the-go measurement for a variety of crop, soil and climatic variables by yield sensors, biomass, and crop response sensors (aerial and space-borne multi- and hyper- spectral cameras), weather stations, soil water sensors for environmental monitoring.
- A Geomatic laboratory integrates mapping and traditional monitoring/surveillance systems with geomatic, and high technology information methodologies based on the GPS, remote sensing, management and spatial modeling using GIS, and networked sensors.
