Selected Projects in the 3rd Transnational/Virtual access programme Call announced, Expanding Access to Research Services

AgroServ is pleased to announce the selection of new innovative research projects that were submitted in Spring during the application period of the 3rd Call for access. These projects will join the 40+ initiatives from the 1st and 2nd call in the Transnational/Virtual Access cohort, furthering AgroServ’s mission to advance the agroecological transition through transnational and transdisciplinary research.

The accepted projects will deliver practical, science-based innovations that cut emissions, improve resource efficiency, and strengthen climate resilience across crops, livestock, and digital infrastructure, aligning with EU Green Deal, Farm to Fork, and soil-health goals through deployable solutions like low-methane ruminant strategies, drought- and heat-resilient cereals and vineyards, biological disease control, bio-based materials, and a shared Virtual Research Environment to accelerate evidence uptake in policy and practice.

Further information on the projects from the 3rd AgroServ Call:

The projects accepted in the 3rd Call for Access reflect a wide range of innovative approaches to tackling the challenges of sustainable agriculture and climate change. They focus on improving crop resilience to drought, heat, and disease, enhancing nitrogen efficiency and grain quality in emerging cereals like tritordeum, and developing climate-adapted vineyard systems. Several projects aim at advancing sustainable livestock production, including strategies to mitigate methane emissions in ruminants. Others explore novel biocontrol and bio-based solutions, such as using beneficial fungi against wheat diseases, creating bio-composites from mycelium, and testing synergies between mycorrhizae and nanomaterials in tomatoes under stress. Additionally, initiatives are investigating the responses of microbial plankton to agricultural waste and creating digital tools, such as a Virtual Research Environment, to support agroecological transitions. Collectively, these projects address the urgent need to boost productivity, resilience, and sustainability in agri-food systems under the growing pressures of climate change.

As part of AgroServ’s commitment to fostering collaboration and innovation, each of the projects will gain free access to at least two research services from different Research Infrastructures. This unique opportunity will enable researchers to expand their projects’ ambitions, consolidating research and practice across Europe and internationally, to build a more sustainable and resilient agricultural future.
