Advancing Sustainable Agriculture: Join the AgroServ WP5 Workshop at INRAE
The AgroServ project is pleased to announce the upcoming Work Package 5 (WP5) event, hosted by INRAE. Scheduled for the 17th of April 2026, this one-day workshop will take place at the INRAE Centre Clermont-Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Site de Crouel.
The theme of the event is "Agroecology, nutrient cycles and smart practices for a sustainable bioeconomy". The workshop is designed to bring together researchers, practitioners, and stakeholders around a shared scientific focus. Our primary goal is to highlight the importance of smart practices in reducing emissions, improving soil quality, and enhancing biodiversity.

A Multi-Infrastructure Approach
The event will explore the intersection of agroecology, bioeconomy, and smart technologies in sustainable farming systems. To achieve this, the workshop is structured to demonstrate how various INRAE research infrastructures involved in AgroServ play complementary, interconnected roles:
- SmartCow: Focuses on livestock, molecules, and emissions.
- IBISBA: Transforms agricultural residues into molecules and bioenergy.
- ELIXIR: Provides cross-cutting support spanning molecules, health, and the environment.
- EMPHASIS: Concentrates on agriculture, specifically soil and plants.
- MIRRI: Connects molecules and microbiology with anaerobic digestion and bioenergy.
Morning Program: Presentations and Panels
The morning sessions will feature key scientific presentations and collaborative discussions. Highlights include:
- A keynote presentation by Marta Terre on "The Role of Smart Technologies in Sustainable Agroecology".
- An AgroServ presentation by Perrine Florent detailing how the project and INRAE contribute to agroecology.
- A Cross-RI "Services in Perspective" session featuring confirmed speakers such as Michel Mitsou (MIRRI), Diana Garcia-Bernet (IBISBA), and Rene Baumont (SmartCow).
- An Interactive User–Access Manager Exchange to discuss the multi-RI pathway from user needs to facility access.
Afternoon Program: Facility Visits
In the afternoon, participants will have the opportunity to explore different aspects of agroecology through hands-on demonstrations. Attendees will be split into groups for technical tours:
- Group 1: Will visit EMPHASIS Pheno3C in Crouel, focusing on plant research, soil health, and phenotyping.
- Group 2: Will visit the SmartCow Herbipole in Theix to observe precision livestock farming, animal husbandry, and emissions reduction.
The day will conclude with a Q&A and wrap-up session to share reflections and discuss opportunities for future collaboration.
This event is highly recommended for researchers and engineers from INRAE and partner institutions, research infrastructure managers, AgroServ partners, and selected external stakeholders from public research and innovation platforms.
