AgroServ continues to give access to integrated Research Services, allowing stakeholders to seek and develop new pathways to achieve the agroecological transition in the EU
The AgroServ Horizon Europe project is pleased to announce the selection of new innovative research proposals that were submitted last Fall during the application period of the 4th Call for access. These projects will join the 50+ initiatives from the first three calls in the Transnational/Virtual Access programme cohort, furthering AgroServ’s mission to advance the agroecological transition through transnational and transdisciplinary research.
The accepted projects selected in this 4th Call focus on translating advanced agricultural research into practical, field-ready solutions. By addressing urgent environmental challenges—from extreme weather to soil degradation—these initiatives will provide farmers and rural communities with the tools they need to build resilient and sustainable food systems. Ultimately, these projects highlight how targeted scientific innovation can directly support healthy soils, thriving crops, and long-term agricultural security.
Further information on the projects from the 4th AgroServ Call:
The 15 projects accepted in this 4th Call cover a diverse and interdisciplinary range of topics centered around the agroecological transition, climate change resilience, and agricultural sustainability. A prominent theme across many of the proposals is enhancing plant tolerance to abiotic stresses—such as extreme heat, drought, and low phosphate availability—with research targeting crops like wheat, rice, barley, tomatoes, orphan legumes, oaks, and stone pines through innovative methods like seed nanopriming, genomics, and high-throughput phenotyping. Several projects also focus on sustainable farming practices and climate mitigation, exploring carbon sequestration in basalt-amended soils, greenhouse gas reduction in rice cultivation, and ecosystem service valuation. Additionally, the selected projects address critical biotic challenges, such as dissecting virus resistance in cassava and promoting biopesticide adoption in African agro-systems, while also highlighting the socio-economic dimensions of agriculture through initiatives designed to preserve Italy's traditional cheese heritage and link soil health to premium markets for Andalusian extra virgin olive oil.
As part of AgroServ’s commitment to fostering collaboration and innovation, each of the projects will gain free access to at least two research services from different Research Infrastructures. This unique opportunity will enable researchers to expand their projects’ ambitions, consolidating research and practice across Europe and internationally, to build a more sustainable and resilient agricultural future.
